After receiving treatments over the last few years, he went thru a remission period. Sadly, he was told the Lymphoma was back and is at a very aggressive stage. The City Swimming pool is open for Adult Swim on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7pm-9pm. Admission is $3.00.

The Rockdale High School Big Blue Band will be practicing through Friday, August 11th (full band) practice form 8am to 2:30 pm.  Monday, August 14th- Thursday, August 17th ( full band) practice will be 5pm to 7pm.

Rockdale Junior High Football Equipment will be issued on Friday, August 18th, 8th Grade – 9:30am to 10:30am, 7th Grade – 10:30am to 11:30am.  Players may purchase their own cleats.  They must be black, blue, white, gray or any combination of these colors.  Practice begins Wednesday, August 23rd,  7th Grade – 7am to 8:50am. 8th Grade – 2:51pm to 4:40pm.  Junior High Volleyball Equipment will be issued on Friday, August 18 7th & 8th Combined – 8:30am to 9:3 am.  Practice begins Wednesday, August 23rd 7th Grade – 3:45pm to 4:45pm, 8th Grade – 6:45am to 7:45am.  All athletes must have physicals and online paperwork completed and on file the first week of school.

St. Monica’s Catholic Church in Cameron will be having their Homecoming Festival on Sunday August 20th. Spanish Mass will be at 7am and Polka Mass will be at 10am with the Taylor Czech Chorus.  Beef and Sausage plates will be sold for $10 each, serving starts at 10:30am until sold out.  Drive Thru line for plates to go.  All types of Food & Game booths throughout the day. The Majeks of Corpus will perform inside Simon & George Hall starting at 11:30am. There will be a Live Auction in the Hall at 3:30 pm.  Horseshoe Tournament $20 per team Registration 11:30am-12:30pm, Games begin at 1pm. A raffle concludes the day with a $1000 Visa Card as top prize. Tickets for the raffle are $1 each or six for $5.

Local Union 4895 Family Picnic will  be held August 26 from 11:30 am until 2:45 pm at The Ranch on Highway 79 in Rockdale.

The next meeting of the Rockdale ALCOA Retirees for 2017 will be Thursday, September 14th.  The meeting will be at the Lake Training Center.  Set up begins at 4 pm.  Doors open at 5 pm.  A short meeting will be held just before 6 pm.  Dessert group will be (last name) M-Z.  No silent auction at this meeting.

The Bi-Annual Persky Family Reunion will be Sunday September 3, 2017  starting at 9:30 am – 4;30 pm at the SPJST Hall #15 in Buckholts.  Bring a covered dish for lunch, Silent Auction item, old documents, wedding and family photos.  Ice Tea, Coffee and paper goods will be provided.

The CH Yoe High Class of 1977 is planning its 40th Class Reunion on Saturday, November 4th at Bea’s Kitchen in Cameron. The Planning Committee is seeking to contact all classmates. Memorial Ruck in honor of hometown heroes, 2LT Darryn Andrews and MSG Charles Price III will take place August 19th at 8am in Cameron City Park. The 8 mile ruck will follow Fannin Street out to Highway 77 North turning around at Denio’s Furniture Store and will head back to City Park. At 1pm a memorial service will be held to honor the fallen and their families. Guest speaker will be Earl Granville.

Look Good, Feel Better” is a free Baylor Scott & White workshop for women with cancer to help you look and feel more comfortable with changes in your appearance. It is led by licensed cosmetologists who teach in a group setting that provides an environment of support, confidence, courage and community. The workshop is from 1:30pm to 3:30pm on the following third Mondays: August. 21st, October 16th and December 18th. The 2nd Annual R-V-F-D Smoke & Stroke Contest will be held Saturday September 16th at the Rockdale Country Club. The Events/Activities include a 2 Meat Cook-off including Steak and a Meat of the Cooks Choice, Margarita and Salsa Competition, Five Person Golf (Best Ball) Tournament, and the Swimming Pool will be open. Rockdale PAWS is an Organization that socializes, cares for and finds foster homes or forever homes for animals picked up by Rockdale Animal Control. They are looking to pet lovers for help. They need volunteers to feed and take care of the animals. Donations are welcome to pay for food, shots, spaying and neutering and treatment to get them ready for adoption. Are you interested in exciting and fun opportunities in law enforcement? The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office is looking for young adults ages 14 – 20 to join the Sheriff’s Explorer program. This program acquaints young adults with the field of law enforcement as a future career choice along with life skills, citizenship, character education and leadership experience. Pack Pals a 501c (3) non-profit organization currently serving the children of Rockdale and Milano School Districts is looking for donations. This program provides weekend supply of nutritious food for children when school lunch of breakfast is unavailable on a weekday, weekend or school holiday. Pack Pals is in need of individual serving sizes of foods and monetary donations. If you would like to donate, you can drop of food at Rockdale Signs & Photography. Rockdale iTigers offers iFit twice a week: Mondays at 6:30pm and Wednesdays at 7pm at the RHS weight room. This is also open to the public and it is free.

Rockdale ISD Gold Cards are available for complimentary general admission to school events, sports, etc., for persons who are 60 years of age or older and live within the Rockdale Independent School District. The cards do not have an expiration date and are available in the RISD Central Administration Building, 520 West Davilla during regular office hours.

The Milam County Tax Office Rockdale Substation is open Monday-Friday from 8 am-4pm. The office is closed at 12noon for lunch.

Rockdale High School and Junior High School Students have an opportunity to learn the skills to build an Airplane.  Students will be able to work on constructing a plane.  Rockdale Tiger Flight meets each Saturday at 10 am at H.H. Coffield Regional Airport on FM 908 South.

The Cameron Volunteer Fire Department is accepting applications for membership in the department. No prior fire service qualifications are needed. Applicants must be 18 years of age, no criminal history, have a drivers license, a vehicle to respond with, live within a few miles of Cameron, and most of all be able to respond to fires and attend meetings and drills each Monday.
