The Lee & Fayette County Senior Expo is Tuesday, June 25th from 10 am until 2 pm at the American Legion Hall in Giddings. Area seniors and caretakers, come experience this free event, which features more than 40 booths offering information on topics and products that impact seniors, including information on assisted and retirement living, health issues, medical care, Alzheimer’s support, hearing and other topics. There will be giveaways (pens, stylus, flash lights, koozies, calendars, magnets, cups, notepads, water bottles, lens cleaners, pill boxes, med alert items, candy, mardi gras beads, lotions, chap stick, travel size samples, etc.). Now through Friday, June 27th Rockdale I-S-D is serving Free Summer meals for kids and teens at the Rockdale Elementary and Rockdale Junior High. Breakfast is from 7:30 am-8 am and Lunch is from 11 am-11:30 am.

The Milam County Railroad Museum will host their Junior Engineer Camp on Wednesday, July 10th through Friday, July 12th and Monday, July 15th through -Friday, July 19th,. The camp is for kids age 8-18 and will run from 9 am until 12 Noon each day of the camp. The cost for all 8 days of activities is $40. Beginning Monday, July 15th, the Cameron ISD Summer Meal program will begin. Service begins at 11 am until 12:30 pm from Monday, July 15th until Friday, August 2nd in the Ben Milam Elementary School. No food may leave the building, but fruit may be taken home. Meals will be served Monday through Thursday with the exception of Friday, August 2nd.

Dede Westbrook and Go Crazy will be giving free haircuts on Friday, July 19th from 12 pm till until 6 pm at the Cameron Junior High Cafeteria. Ages 3-17 are free. Dede Westbrook and Go Crazy will also host a Football camp at Yoe field Saturday, July 20th from 9 am until 12 pm. Limited space is available. The Golf tournament is right around the corner Saturday, July 20th, at the Cameron Country Club. If you are planning to attend this year, we have provided a website that you can register. The 2019 Cameron Funfest and BBQ Shootout that was scheduled for Friday, May 10th and Saturday, May 11th at Wilson-Ledbetter Park in Cameron has been rescheduled. The new dates will be Friday, August 16th and Saturday, August 17th. There will be a free concert Friday night featuring The Brice Daniels Band. A 5K Beer and Brat Trot run/walk will kick off at 8 am Saturday. There will also be arts and crafts, a kid’s fun zone, the annual kid fish, washer and horseshoe tournaments, and much more. Rockdale PAWS is an Organization that socializes, cares for and finds foster homes or forever homes for animals picked up by Rockdale Animal Control. They are looking to pet lovers for help. They need volunteers to feed and take care of the animals. Donations are welcome to pay for food, shots, spaying and neutering and treatment to get them ready for adoption. The Blessings from God Food Pantry will be passing out food from the mobile pantry every 2nd Wednesday of the month from 11 am-12 noon. Fruits and vegetables are distributed every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 1 pm-2 pm. The pantry is located at 1300 North Austin in Cameron.

Enrollment is now open for Tiger Learning Center. The Brand New Tiger Learning Center is dedicated to the growth and development of all children and is equipped to offer quality instruction in a safe, loving and engaging environment. Pack Pals a 501c (3) non-profit organization currently serving the children of Rockdale and Milano School Districts is looking for donations. This program provides weekend supply of nutritious food for children when school lunch of breakfast is unavailable on a weekday, weekend or school holiday. Pack Pals is in need of individual serving sizes of foods and monetary donations. If you would like to donate, you can drop of food at Rockdale Signs & Photography. Rockdale iTigers offers iFit twice a week: Mondays at 6:30 p.m. and Wednesdays at 7 pm at the Rockdale High School weight room. This is also open to the public and it is free.

Rockdale I-S-D Gold Cards are available for complimentary general admission to school events, sports, etc., for persons who are 60 years of age or older and live within the Rockdale Independent School District. The Cameron Volunteer Fire Department is accepting applications for membership in the department. No prior fire service qualifications are needed. Applicants must be 18 years of age, no criminal history, have a drivers license, a vehicle to respond with, live within a few miles of Cameron, and most of all be able to respond to fires and attend meetings and drills each Monday. AMAZING GRACE THRIFT SHOP on Highway 36 at the caution light in Buckholts is a non-profit organization that has clothes and shoes priced at 50 cents. They also have household items, books, baby items, etc. The group relies on donations to make this a ministry of God’s grace and will use the money for scholarships, school functions, and other community projects that God puts in their hearts.
