Rockdale Chamber of Commerce is celebrating Earth Day with Various events. The primary work day for Earth Day is Friday, April 20th. This year, the kickoff will be at the High School gym, beginning at 8:30 am with breakfast tacos served by the Emmaus Project. At 9 am, there will be a welcome and send-off of volunteers and teams to various clean-up projects around town. There are 7 or 8 high school organizations participating on Friday, April 20th and 2 Girl Scout troops doing a project on Saturday, April 21st. The Milam County A&M Club will be holding the annual Aggie Muster on Saturday, April 21st at 44 Farms in Cameron. Muster starts at 6 pm with dinner, followed by guest speaker Lynn Hagan of Gause, Aggie Class of 1977. Hagan was awarded the 2010 Texas A&M Aggie Women Network’s Legacy Award for her work with Texas A&M and international humanitarian work. Roll call for the absent will take place after the speaker. All former, current, and parents of Aggies are invited. Tickets are $12 each and can be purchased at Ideal Poultry in Cameron.
Academy will be hosting their Annual Lady Bee Softball BBQ Fundraiser Saturday, April 21st from 9 am until sold out at the corner of Highway 95 and 436 in Little River Academy. The City of Taylor will hold their annual clean up day on Saturday, April 21st. Residents of Taylor will be able to haul any unwanted trash and debris to dumpsters at 1200 Welch and 1424 North Main from 8 am-3 pm. Those participating should bring proof of residency. Items NOT accepted include wire, tires, batteries, antifreeze, chemicals, paints, liquids, concrete, dirt, roofing materials and asbestos siding. Unmanageable brush will also be turned away. Refrigerators will be accepted, however, compressors must be removed. Oil, filters, scrap metal, and computers and printers may be taken to the Williamson County Recycling Center. Tickets are on sale now for the annual R-V-F-D giveaway, set for Saturday, April 21st at the Rockdale KC Hall. Spokesman Mike Korenek said tickets are being sold, with priority given to those on a list held over from last year. Tickets are priced at $125 each. The La Escuelita 15th annual spring cook-off Saturday, April 21st, from 8 am-5 pm, at the church just east of the Rockdale KC Hall. The family friendly event features food, games, music, and a treasure trove of arts and crafts. Cook-off entry is $15 per category, with winners chosen in Brisket, Chicken, and Pork. Calvert and the Calvert Main Street Preservation Program present Calvert 150-A Texas Celebration Fit for a Queen on Saturday, April 21st from 9 am-10 pm. Numerous attractions and events are planned. Rockdale ISD Pre-K & Kindergarten Registration will be Tuesday, April 24th from 3:45 pm-5:45 pm at the Rockdale Elementary School Cafeteria. Parents will need to bring the child’s social security card, immunization record, proof of residency, parent driver license, and proof of income for Pre-K eligibility. Prospective students must be 4-years-old on or before September 1st for Pre-K and 5-years-old on or before September 1st for kindergarten.
The Greater Taylor Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with Taylor Economic Development Corporation, will host Trade Day Career Fair from 10 am-4 pm Wednesday, April 25th at the Williamson County Expo Center. The Fair is open to all students, adults, and local residents.

The Thorndale Classic Car Show in Downtown Thorndale is Saturday, April 28. Vehicle registration begins at 8 am. Winners will be announced at 1 pm. Now through July 31st, the hours for the Milam Appraisal District offices will be from 9 am-4 pm weekdays. The abbreviated hours will allow the staff time before and after public hours to process necessary paperwork created by the higher volume of phone calls and walk-in taxpayers generated by the mailing of the notices. Pack Pals a 501c (3) non-profit organization currently serving the children of Rockdale and Milano School Districts is looking for donations. This program provides weekend supply of nutritious food for children when school lunch of breakfast is unavailable on a weekday, weekend or school holiday.
