The 28th Annual Thorndale V-F-D BBQ Cook-off is going on this weekend at Thorndale City Park. Events include a Softball Tournament, Arts And Crafts, “42” Domino Tournament, Horseshoe Tournament, Washer Tournament, Live music and more. Tonight’s entertainment is the Snake River Band and Josh Ward from 9 pm until 1 am. The Thorndale Fireman’s Auxiliary Turkey & Dressing Dinner is at 11 am today in the Fireman’s Hall for $10 a plate. The United in Christ Christian Ministries will host Faith Fest by the Lake at Ledbetter Park starting at 10 am today. There will be a benefit for Will Ewing starting at 11 am today at Belton VFW. BBQ plates will be served starting at 11 am for $10 per plate. Also scheduled a raffle, 50-50 drawing, lotto basket, and live auction. Donations and auction items are needed. Ewing was critically injured after he was struck and pinned between another car and his own 18-wheeler. He ended up losing both legs and suffered many other injuries. Come join the Cameron and Rockdale Chamber of Commerce July 4th Fireworks Celebration in Cameron at the Wilson-Ledbetter Park. There will be games for the kids, Pie Eating Contest, Watermelon Seed spitting contest and more! The event will feature Magician David G Wonders and his magic show. Food trucks and drinks will be available. Bring your lawn chairs and come join in the festivities. The event will begin at 6 pm on Wednesday, July 4th. Fireworks will start at dusk. There is an entry fee of $5.00 per child/student to gain access to all games and magician.

The Taylor Annual 4th of July Fireworks in the Park is on Wednesday, July 4th at dusk. The fireworks can be seen from almost anywhere within Taylor Murphy Park’s vicinity. Bring your lawn chairs and enjoy the show.

The Rockdale Chamber of Commerce is having a Casino Night Fundraiser on Saturday, July 21st at The Ranch here in Rockdale! This is their big fundraiser this year with the goal of raising money for Community Events (Annual Easter Egg Hunt, 4th of July & Christmas in Rockdale) as well as funding for restrooms in Wolf Park which will be a huge help during downtown events. Sponsorship packages are available at the Chamber of Commerce office. Tickets to the event are available now on a first come, first taken basis in limited quantity. Tickets are $50 each. Milam County Sheriff David Greene and the Department’s Brown Santa Program will be hosting their 8th annual Brown Santa Golf Tournament on Saturday, July 28th. The program was established in 2010, to accept donations and other charitable items to provide Christmas gifts to low income families throughout Milam County. The Golf Tournament will be held at the Cameron Country Club and is also accepting Hole Sponsorship’s at $100 per hole. The cost to play is $50 (but $80 will get you 5 $10 raffle tickets and 2 mulligan’s). Tee times will be at 8 am and 1 pm. Food, drinks, and prizes will be provided. Now through July 31st, the hours for the Milam Appraisal District offices will be from 9 am-4 pm weekdays. The abbreviated hours will allow the staff time before and after public hours to process necessary paperwork created by the higher volume of phone calls and walk-in taxpayers generated by the mailing of the notices. You can come by the District’s office at 120 North Houston Avenue in Cameron during the designated hours if you have questions or concerns about your appraisal notices or other District-related questions.

Rockdale I-S-D is currently hiring bus drivers. Pay starts at $11.50 an hour. Rockdale I-S-D will pay fees for physical, certification and testing for CDL license. Rockdale PAWS is an Organization that socializes, cares for and finds foster homes or forever homes for animals picked up by Rockdale Animal Control. They are looking to pet lovers for help. They need volunteers to feed and take care of the animals. Donations are welcome to pay for food, shots, spaying and neutering and treatment to get them ready for adoption. The Brand New Tiger Learning Center is dedicated to the growth and development of all children and is equipped to offer quality instruction in a safe, loving and engaging environment. Pack Pals a 501c (3) non-profit organization currently serving the children of Rockdale and Milano School Districts is looking for donations. This program provides weekend supply of nutritious food for children when school lunch of breakfast is unavailable on a weekday, weekend or school holiday. Pack Pals is in need of individual serving sizes of foods and monetary donations. If you would like to donate, you can drop of food at Rockdale Signs & Photography. Rockdale iTigers offers iFit twice a week: Mondays at 6:30 pm and Wednesdays at 7 pm at the Rockdale High School weight room. This is also open to the public and it is free.

Rockdale I-S-D Gold Cards are available for complimentary general admission to school events, sports, etc., for persons who are 60 years of age or older and live within the Rockdale Independent School District. The Milam County Tax Office Rockdale Substation is open Monday-Friday from 8 am-4 pm. The office is closed at 12 noon for lunch.

Rockdale High School and Junior High School Students have an opportunity to learn the skills to build an Airplane.  Students will be able to work on constructing a plane.  Rockdale Tiger Flight meets each Saturday at 10 am at H.H. Every Thursday and 3rd Saturday of the month, Jimmie Maze and the Milano Playboys perform at the Chriesman Community Center in Chriesman, Texas from 7 pm – 9 pm.

Karaoke from 5 pm to 11:55 pm the 1st and 3rd Friday every month at the Cameron VFW Post 2010 in Cameron.

The Milano Jamboree will be held on the last Saturday of each month at 7 pm in the Milano Civic Center in Milano. Everyone is invited to come enjoy some great country and gospel music.  Admission is free and refreshments will be available.

The Cameron Volunteer Fire Department is accepting applications for membership in the department. No prior fire service qualifications are needed. Applicants must be 18 years of age, no criminal history, have a drivers license, a vehicle to respond with, live within a few miles of Cameron, and most of all be able to respond to fires and attend meetings and drills each Monday. AMAZING GRACE THRIFT SHOP on Highway 36 at the caution light in Buckholts is a non-profit organization that has clothes and shoes priced at 50 cents. They also have household items, books, baby items, etc. The group relies on donations to make this a ministry of God’s grace and will use the money for scholarships, school functions, and other community projects that God puts in their hearts.
